Birds Eye View

Doors-off Helicopter Flights

  • The best way to understand the Okavango Delta water system is to experience it from above. The doors-off helicopter rides, offer unrestricted views and unparalleled photo opportunities.

  • The helicopter picks you up from right outside our door and moments later you will be flying over the crystal clear water viewing channels meandering their way through lagoons and flood planes. The scenic flights usually last about an hour, but can be tailored to your needs. We remove the doors, but you are well strapped in.

Wildlife Coexistence Initiative

  • Human and Wildlife conflict is a daily concern for many in the remote villages of the Okavango Delta as farmers often lose livestock to predators. The first stop is a visit to a herding program run by the community to reduce carnivore conflict and benefit livestock owners with veterinary assistance and improved rangelands.

  • A short helicopter flight or a 30-minute drive will take you to the nearby village where you can engage with the community to learn about the traditional herding programs and witness first-hand the work of ‘Communities Living Among Wildlife Sustainably’. The experience includes a talk with the head herdsman and a guided tour of the bomas used to protect cattle.

Life With Elephants Tour

  • The second stop is a tour with the ‘Life with Elephants’ group in the traditional Hambukushu village of Eretsha. The tour group was set up by the conservation NGO, Eco-exist to increase benefits to communities that coexist with Elephants.

  • A short scenic helicopter flight or a 30-minute drive to the local school and a typical farmer household, where village elders explain the day-to-day challenges of living amongst elephants and there is a traditional song and dance.

Unlocking the Mystique of Tsodilo Hills

  • The Tsodilo Hills area is accessible by helicopter, departing Daunara after an early fireside breakfast. The caves themselves are reached after a demanding but rewarding hike, accompanied by a professional San guide who will explain the fascinating cave artwork, and highlight a side of Botswana that few travellers get to experience. The outing lasts about half a day and the return scenic flight takes you over the wide Okavango Panhandle and across permanent lagoons, before flying back over broad seasonal floodplains.

  • The Hills area is accessible via scenic flight, which leaves after an early fireside breakfast, followed by a demanding but rewarding hike to the caves to view the rock paintings. You will be accompanied by a professional San guide who will explain the fascinating artwork, resenting a side of Botswana few travellers get to experience. The outing lasts about half a day and the return scenic flight takes you from the wide Okavango Panhandle across permanent lagoons back over the peripheral seasonal floodplains.

Join the Effort at Elephant Havens

  • Participate in the noble efforts of Elephant Havens, a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants, enhancing community engagement and wildlife tourism. The orphanage rescues and hand-rears orphaned and abandoned baby elephants, with the goal of eventually releasing them back into the wild alongside other elephants.

  • Leave at 8 am, for a short scenic flight or an hour long drive to Elephant Haven, where guests can experience the conservation work first hand, en route back to camp stop for Brunch at the Daunara foundation or pass by our community garden to collect some delicious fresh produce.

Makgadikgadi Experience

The Beauty of the Pans

  • Witness the dramatic landscapes of the Makgadikgadi Pans, one of the world's largest salt flats, teeming with unique wildlife and the iconic Kubu Island, all from the vantage point of a scenic flight.

  • A scenic flight over the Makgadikgadi offers guests an experience of unique terrain not often associated with Botswana. From approximately January through to April, tens of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra can be spotted during their annual migration. From March until June, a sea of Greater Flamingos can be seen on the southern edge of the pans.

    Halfway through any of our scenic flights, we can add some bubbles. The pilot will find a deserted palm island where you can enjoy a break with some ice-cold bubbly to celebrate the wilderness.
